THE HISTORY OF A GREAT ASTROPHYSICIST

Assalamualaykum, guys. I hope you don't get bored to visit my blog. On my last journal, I had promised to publish my book review. So, I want to share my review of the biography book today.

The biography of Stephen Hawking is the work of Nina Artanti and Arief Rahmat. The book published by Media Pressindo in 2017. It has 118 pages. The authors were graduated from English Education major in Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. They have written many biography book such as Jack Ma, Donald Trump, Kim Jong Un, and etc. This book tells about how Stephen Hawking became a great physicist start from his childhood, teenager, and adult life. Hawking was born in Oxford, England in 8 January 1942. His parents are Frank Hawking and Isobel Walker. Both of his parents are an intellectual people. His father worked in medical, while his mother was a secretary who studied philosophy, political and economy. He has two younger sisters named Phillippa and Mary. His family have high intelectuallity and uphold the education of their children, but they were very strict. Hawking's parents made him became a genius scientist.

The authors describe the life story of Stephen Hawking very well and adding some pictures related to Hawking. It makes the reader enjoy to read the book. The authors also put Hawking's quotes in each chapter. It seems like they want to motivate the readers through reading the book. Stephen Hawking was born on the 300th anniversary of the death of famed astronomer Galileo. When he was a kid, he wasn't a clever student. His father forced him to interest in science and mathematics. On October 1959, he became a student of Oxford University and got a scholarship. He continued his education to Cambridge University on 1962 and met his wife Jane Wilde. They have three children. Hawking was 21 years old when he was diagnosed with ALS. Over his condition, he won't gave up. He managed to do what he want to do and made his career as an astrophysicist blossoming by his phenomenal theories of Universe.

In my opinion, the book is good. But there are some weakness such as typos and the explanation not arranged well. There are some pictures and quotes which put in the middle of paragraph. I think it would be better if the authors or editor put the pictures and quotes under the paragraph or on new page. The time setting of the book is not arranged well, it made me as a reader confused to understanding the story.

There are also found many repeated same sentences on some paragraphs. The authors could describe it once, not twice or three times. Because the reader would be bored by the same description when they saw it on the next chapter. If some part have been describe in paragraph, there's no need to make the description into quotes because it's only wasting readers' time. In addition, this book give many information of Hawking's life career as an astrophysicist by explain more his contribution in Astronomy and Phyisics. The readers who like science will be enjoy this book so much and the book will motivate the readers not to give up on life. After all, the book is interesting and educational.

Overall, the book deliver the story of Stephen Hawking's life very well. The book is interesting and educate the readers. I highly recommend this book to the students, teachers and lecturers, university students and especially the students who learn and like science.
